This is for applications and registration under the 'alternative route' as per MSN 1904.  You will need to provide a copy of your award certificate & academic transcript. Also, a copy of your ENIC comparability letter, if your qualification is from an overseas institution.

Note: if originating from outside the EU, only equivalency to UK Level 6 Degree’s and above will be accepted. We can only accept Apprenticeships, HNC’s & HND’s (Levels 3-5) from UK or EU States.

Once received, your application will be considered by the Panel and decision made regarding eligibility.  An Action Plan will be provided together with a Training Record Book, and registration letter stating the TRB registration number. This will enable you to progress on towards an SV EOOW Certificate of Competency.

Small Vessel Engineer Training Record Book - For those already in receipt of an action plan following the alternative route.

This training record book is written by the MNTB and approved by the MCA. It will be required for trainee officers to progress toward an SV EOOW (less than 9000kW, less than 3000GT).This book must be provided by an MCA authorised training provider and must also be registered with that training provider. The book must be stamped and dated and a registration number supplied, which is then maintained by the issuing training provider administration team. 

After completing payment, you will need to send a copy of your LIA or Action Plan along with proof of payment to [email protected] You will then receive a the TRB and registration letter.

Please do not use this service unless you are already in possession of an action plan and following the alternative route. Those who possess a TRB without registering with a training provider officially, will not be able to progress toward the Certificate of Competency.

This is for applications and registration under the ‘experienced seafarer route' as per MSN 1904.  You will need to provide copies of your sea service records, evidencing 24 months onboard vessels >200kW in an engineering role, with at least 6 months actual sea time (See MSN 1904 Section 5 for sea going service clarification). This sea time should be verified by PYA or Nautilus. Also required are copies of your basic STCW’s, AEC 1 & AEC 2 certification.
