Introduction to Visual Merchandising for small businessesDescriptionIn a challenging marketplace, retail businesses need to stand out amongst the competition. Good visual merchandising helps retail businesses to create eye catching and appealing places for customers to shop. This course is an introduction to the basic principles of visual merchandising that can be applied to a variety of business environments – from product based retail (eg fashion, lifestyle, food) to service industries (eg hairdressing, restaurants). Areas covered will include window design, interior layouts, customer flow, visual branding, graphics and lighting. Attendees will work on quick fixes and longer term solutions for the presentation of their businesses. This will be worked on using case studies to demonstrate both successes and challenges. Workshop techniques will be used to build practical, creative ideas that can be taken back to the business and implemented after the course. The University’s own store, Re:So, will be used for a guided floorwalk to explore layout, adjacencies and zoning.
